Distribution: Western Pacific: Japan and New Zealand. Southeast Pacific and Southwest Atlantic: Patagonian, Chilean and Argentine waters. Based on the geographical distance between the populations and some morphometric and meristic differences observed, assigning a subspecific name to each of these populations seems appropriate.
