Distribution: Former USSR and Asia: Caspian Sea and Aral Sea (Ref. 26334). Aral basin, in Amu Darya, Syr Darya and Chu drainages (Ref. 59043).
Diagnosis:   Dorsal spines (total): 4-4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 5-5
Biology: At sea, mostly close to shores. Forages also in estuaries. Spawns in lowland streams and rivers on sand-gravel bottom, usually in strong current. Semi-anadromous and non-anadromous individuals and populations, rarely landlocked in reservoirs. Larvae feed on zooplankton and small benthic invertebrates. Juveniles and adults feed on invertebrates, algae, detritus, plant material, and small fishes (Ref. 59043)
