Distribution: Europe: Germany and Poland (Ref. 12255). Former USSR: lakes belonging to the basins of all rivers that fall into the Arctic Ocean, from Kolyma and as far west as the Severnaya Dvina. Asia: in the basin of the Pacific Ocean only south of the rivers Uda and Tugur; common in the basin of the Amur.
Biology: In schools in weedy waters. Feeds on worms, crustaceans, insect larvae, and insects (Ref. 1441). Globally not threatened, but some isolated relict populations in Middle Volga and Poland have already been extirpated, are declining or threathened (Ref. 59043)
