Distribution: Africa: White Nile, Nile and Lake Nubia. Has been reported from Lake Chad but its presence there needs confirmation (Ref. 2940).
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Very small size. Small mouth, incomplete lateral line reduced to some perforations. Scales of lateral line bigger than other. Yellowish back, scales bordered with black. Black line or stripe on each side of head from snout to opercle. Oblique reddish stripe and maybe also 1-2 black stripes on dorsal and anal. Dorsal and anal both with 3 simple rays.
