Distribution: Africa: Ghanaian basins west of the Volta and in Ivorian basins until Nipoué. Also known from the coastal rivers of Guinea (Ref. 2801)
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Convex dorsal profile, pointed head. Cephalic pores on head. Long barbels, anterior reaching vertical of posterior half of eye, posterior reaching past eye. Dorsal and anal with 3 simple rays, 3 individualized spots, round and aligned in middle body: 1) 7-8th scale; 2) just behind posterior end of dorsal; 3) caudal peduncle. Lateral line scales, above and 2 rows below with melanophores. RDT = 1.14-1.22.
Biology: Affinities: B. anniae (massive head, long and wider, dorsal shorter, smaller spots); B. tiekoroi (longer head, shorter dorsal, smaller spots, colored fins); B. traorei = sympatric with B. trispilos, (3.5 scales below lateral line, shorter barbels) (Ref. 2940)
