Distribution: Africa: Known only from the upper reaches of the River Hedjo (Volta basin) near the Togo and Ghanaian borders.
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Medium sized, cephalic pores visible on head. Anterior barbel reaching past anterior eye border, posterior barbel extending to and beyond middle of eye. Lateral line dipping below dorsal. Black longitudinal band from eye to caudal peduncle. Scales on back, lateral line and 1st row below lateral line with melanophores in crescent form. Simple rays of dorsal (3 and anal 3 also) strongly pigmented. 1/3 of distal end of dorsal grayish.
