Distribution: Europe: endemic to the western Greece from the River Thiamis including Epirus southward to Ionian Peloponnese (Ref. 31730). Introduced and established in the Isonzo River, northeastern Italy (Ref. 45688). Adriatic basin, from Drin to Aoos drainages, including Lakes Skadar and Ohrid (Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Greece). Vistula drainage (mainly San and Wisloka systems) downstream to Wilga, upper Dniestr basin in Poland and Ukraine (Ref. 59043). Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-9
Biology: Occurs in lakes and in water bodies on low-lying plains, with little current. Reproduction takes place from May to July. Is threatened by water abstraction (Ref. 26100). Max. length (Lubomir Pialek, pers. comm., 2003). Feeds on aquatic invertebrates (Ref. 59043)
