Distribution: Africa: Oriental Slope of Fonta Djalon, upper reaches of the Gambia River, Bafing River, Little Scarcies River and the Niger. Possibly existing in the Occidental Slope.
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Medium sized fish, cephalic pores well visible. Barbels moderately developed, anterior short may extend past anterior eye border, posterior may reach past posterior eye border. Grayish, light belly. Scales bordered with melanophores, accentuated on lateral line scales forming vertical crescents grayish caudal and dorsal (with simple rays, often black). Dorsal and anal with 3 simple rays.
Biology: Affinities: B. ablabes (with longitudinal black band, smaller barbels)
