Distribution: Asia: Pacific Ocean side of eastern Honshu in Japan (Miyagi, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Chiba Prefectures and Tokyo Metropolis).
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal soft rays: 11-12; Vertebrae: 35-37. Can be diagnosed by possessing the following characters: dorsal fin usually with iii, 9 rays; anal fin usually with iii, 9 rays; fewer total vertebrae than in all other subspecies, 36; dorsal fin in males, red; anal fin in nuptial males, red; absence of black blotch on dorsal fin in juveniles; eggs ellipsoid, ratio of major axis to minor axis1.4-2.2 (Ref. 78070). Description: D iii,8-9; A iii,8-9; P i+ 14-15; V i+7 (Ref. 78070).
Biology: Inhabits rivers, lakes and ponds in plains and also creeks and rivers near coasts, and mouths of rivers draining into lagoons (Ref. 78070)
