Distribution: Africa: Upper Niger and from the high basins of the Volta, Bandama, Agnébi and also in the Niger Delta in Nigeria.
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Small sized species. Dorsal profile straight. Cephalic pores not well developed but visible on cheeks. Anterior barbels not reaching anterior eye border in bigger individuals, posterior reaching middle of eye. Lateral line complete, a bit lower under dorsal but rejoins median line above the anal fin. Scales on lateral line clearly deeper than other specially at the vertical of the dorsal fin. Dorsal: 3 simple; Anal: 3 simple. Silvery, contour of scales lined with black. Paired fins pinkish or bright in males. Dorsal in females grayish.
Biology: Affinities: B. pleuropholis from Chad and Congo basins (Ref. 2940). Maximum TL was recorded at 4.2 cm (Ref. 2801)
