Diagnosis:   Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-8; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-6
Biology: Occurs in quiet, well-vegetated waters where it feeds from the surface or on small invertebrates living on plant surfaces (Ref. 7248). Requires well oxygenated waters and usually not found in small or headwater streams (Ref. 13337)
