Distribution: Central America: coasts of Costa Rica to Nicaragua, including Atlantic Honduras.
Diagnosis:   Dorsal spines (total): 17-18; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-10; Anal spines: 9-10; Anal soft rays: 7-8; Vertebrae: 26-27. This species is distinguished by the following characters: body relatively deeper; fewer circumpeduncular scales; gill rakers on first arch often bifid; caudal edge of urohyal sigmoid; with anterodorsad spine on first dorsal pterygiophore; dorsal-fin interradial scales in one row; peritoneum pigmented rostrally; straight-irregular posterior edge of mesethmoid; gut simple, S-shaped, folded ventrorostrally, anal and medial loops not touching; caudal blotch two-thirds on peduncle and one-third on fin; scales from lateral line to base of first dorsal fin ray modally 1.5; caudal vertebrae modally 14 (Ref. 74403).

Comments: Type locality, a stream flowing out of the forest into Río Siquia, 7 miles N of Rama, Atlantic coasr, UMMZ 245585 (holotype of Amatitlania siquia, 6.1 cm SL). Also found in the Great Lakes and the Mosquitian basins (Ref. 74430).
