Diagnosis:   Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 9-9
Biology: Adults occur in streams, ponds and swamps, frequently in areas with dense plant growth (Ref. 5259). Also found in the sea and estuaries (Ref. 4833, 280). Mainly diurnal, and usually territorial. Adults feed mainly on aquatic insects and nymphs with lesser amounts of algae, other aquatic plants and small crustaceans
