Distribution: Asia and Oceania: India, Sri Lanka, Ryukyu Islands, China, Taiwan, Viet Nam, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Reported from Fiji (Ref. 12743). Record from Mauritius (Bleeker 1879) needs confirmation (Ref. 4343).
Diagnosis:   Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-10
Biology: Adults inhabit clear streams, often in rainforest with mud, sand or gravel bottoms (Ref. 2847). Usually occur within 50 km of the sea (Ref. 2847)
