Distribution: Africa: Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso (Upper Volta), Niger, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic and Sudan. Reported from Côte d'Ivoire (Ref. 272).
Biology: Occurs in swamps, small brooks and rivulets in the savanna, weedy parts of rivers and swamps in coastal areas (Ref. 3788). 5.0 cm max SL (Ref. 7372). Browses on algae and higher plant material, terrestrial and aquatic insects, notably culicid larvae and pupae and small beetles (Ref. 28714). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139)
