Distribution: Africa: Fouta Djalon region in Guinea (upper Gambia, Bafing, upper Konkouré and the upper basins of the Little Scarcies rivers). Also known from the rivers of Guinea Bissau (Ref. 2801).
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Dorsal profile convex, slightly compressed head, small mouth, no barbels. Lateral line incomplete, with 5-11 perforated scales, clearly bending just under the dorsal fin. Dorsal, 3 simple, 7 branched, convex external border, last simple ray well developed and ossified at base. Short gill rakers on 1st branchial arch. Yellowish with grayish back. Small round black spot at extremity of caudal peduncle. Sometimes with longitudinal dark band on sides. Pectorals dark. Dorsal, anal and ventrals bright orange, caudal yellowish.
Biology: Affinities: B. pobeguini (with barbels) (Ref. 2940). Maximum TL was recorded at 5.8 cm (Ref. 2801)
