Comments: Known from the Ruzizi basin, throughout the Nyabarongo basin, the Akanyaru basin upstream from Rusumo falls including Bulera and Luhondo lakes, the lakes of the depression of Bugesera, Cyohoha and Mohasi lakes. It is also found in lakes Mihindi and Ihema and the brooks and tributaries of the Middle Akagera, downstream from Rusumo falls where it was never found (Ref. 27628). The introduction of tilapia and some Haplochromis may have been the reason for the decimation or extinction of the species in Lake Luhondo (Ref. 35818). A record of Barbus oligogrammus from Rwanda by Poll (1952) refers to B. neumayeri (Ref. 46152). Also Ref. 2801.
