Distribution: Africa: known from the type locality (a tributary of the Bafing River, Senegal River system). Also known from the Niandan of the upper Niger in Guinea (Ref. 2940).
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-12; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Yellow-olive body darker on back. Scales lined with black. Dorsal lip black. Pointed head, lines of cephalic pores very visible. Short barbels, anterior not reaching eye, posterior extending to anterior 1/2 of eye. Lateral line horizontal. Lateral line scales, deeper. Dorsal: 4, anal: 3 simple rays.
Biology: Affinities: Barbus macrops (higher number of scales, with longitudinal band) Barbus foutensis (higher number of scales, longer barbels)
