Resilience:   Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.)
Distribution: Africa: The two specimens identified came from the upper reaches of the Congo basin [=Congo], more specifically, the Lufira River. Its geographical range is now thought to extend to some East coast rivers (Juba system). Further collection will probably yield specimens from intermediate localities. Not known from Limpopo or Okavango basins (Ref. 1440).
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Vertebrae: 34-34. Snout rounded and not fleshy or warty.
Biology: Also caught using weirs and baskets (Ref. 4967). Found in shallow water over sandy bottoms. Feeds from the biocover and sediment on the sand (Ref. 5595). Formerly very abundant in Malawi, but now rare except where rivers drain undisturbed soil. Possible that silt prevents development of eggs (Ref. 4967)
