Distribution: Africa: Sudanian form found in Senegal, Gambia, Niger, Volta, Ouémé and Chad.
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-21; Anal soft rays: 26-31. Body depth 1.8-2.7x, head length 3.0-4.1 x SL. Caudal peduncle 0.7-1.4 x long than high. Short snout slightly prominent 0.7-1.6 x ocular diameter (3.7-6.1 x head length). Adipose base short 0.5-0.8 x its distance from dorsal fin. Pectoral 0.5-1.1 x head length. Silvery body, pectorals and superior lobe of caudal grayish, inferior lobe of caudal and anal red. Basal part of adipose black.
