Distribution: Africa: savannah areas in the Chad, Niger, Volta, Mono, Ouémé, Gambia, Senegal and other coastal basins.
Diagnosis:   Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Slightly convex dorsal profile. Pointed snout. Anterior barbel short not reaching the eye, posterior may reach or extend past middle of eye. Lines of cephalic pores visible on head. Lateral line complete largest to dark lateral band just below dorsal fin. Dorsal and anal with 3 simple rays. Greenish brown back, silvery sides, light belly. Black lateral band from snout. Black spot on dorsal lip. Caudal and dorsal red-orange, other fins yellow-orange.
