Family:  Batrachoididae (Toadfishes), subfamily: Halophryninae
Max. size:  18.9 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Madagascar and Reunion.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 22-22; Anal soft rays: 19-19; Vertebrae: 18-19. This species is distinguished by its dark color; anal-fin rays 19, dorsal-fin rays 22; usually with a single, simple, pointed orbital cirrus; a simple, pointed barbel at the end of the maxilla; pointed teeth (Ref. 57933).
