Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Atlantic Piedmont and Coastal Plain from Roanoke River drainage in Virginia, USA to Altamaha River drainage in Georgia, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in mud-bottomed, sand-bottomed, or rock-bottomed pools of small to large rivers. Also found in lakes, impoundments and ponds (Ref. 54507, 10294). Feeds on aquatic insects, small fishes, and snails (Ref. 10294).
