Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  7.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 16 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: New Brunswick, Canada and Bermuda to Brazil (Ref. 26938).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  One specimen collected on rubble bottom (Ref. 51183). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 07 January 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
