Family:  Alepocephalidae (Slickheads)
Max. size:  18.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 1080 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Saudi Arabia (Ref. 2908). Eastern Pacific: USA (Ref. 5515) and Chile (Ref. 9068). Also including the Gulf of California (Ref. 35724).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-17; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 12-14; Vertebrae: 46-48. Branchiostegal rays: 7.
Biology:  Mesopelagic, but also probably associated with the bottom (Ref. 35724). Oviparous, with mesopelagic larvae, probably found in deeper waters (Ref. 35724).
