Family:  Claroteidae (Claroteid catfishes), subfamily: Claroteinae
Max. size:  45 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 55984).
Diagnosis:  Description: toothplates on vomer and pterygoids of equal width; supraoccipital process narrowly contacting predorsal plate; maxillary barbel 1.4-2.6 times in standard length (Ref. 75075).
Biology:  Most abundant at 80-120 m. Common at south end of Lake Tanganyika. Feeds on crabs, fish and carrion (Ref 4967).

Threat to humans:  harmless
