Family:  Trichiuridae (Cutlassfishes), subfamily: Aphanopodinae
Max. size:  51 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 1000 m
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 31-34; Dorsal soft rays (total): 68-74; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 64-67; Vertebrae: 105-109. Body silvery, jaws and opercle blackish. The inside of the mouth and gill cavities black.
Biology:  Found on seamounts and continental slope from 375 to 600 m, juveniles are mesopelagic from 100 to 300 (1,000) m (Ref. 6181). Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
