Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  12.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 45 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Hermits Island (Eritrea), Zanzibar (Tanzania), Seychelles, Makran coast, Kuwait to Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and Gulf of Oman.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in tide pools and flats in depths less than 1 m, among the brown alga Cystoseira sp.; has also been trawled at a depth of 45 m. Males mature at about 11.5 cm SL. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). Males carry the eggs in their brood pouches (Ref. 205).
