Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Pteroinae
Max. size:  5.74 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range - 120 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-5; Vertebrae: 24-24. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: D 9; A 5; pectoral-fin rays 19; tip of snout without barbel; profile of posterior margin of pectoral fin bilobed (notched at midpoint); body depth 35.4% of SL; body width 18.6% of SL; head length 37.6% of SL; head width 12.9% of SL; orbit diameter 12.9% of SL; postorbital length 15.3% of SL; suborbital ridge with 14-16 spines; pterotic with 8 spines; no large, soft-rayed portion of dorsal fin without ocellated spot (Ref. 95021).
