Distribution:  South America: Lower Rio Negro, Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 5-6; Anal soft rays: 8-9; Vertebrae: 26-27. Numerous (6-12) dark bars on body sides of males.
Biology:  Inhabits open areas with shallow muddy shores.
