Distribution:  South America: Southern part of Venezuela, including Territorio Amazonas and south of Estado Apure; also known from tributaries of Rio Negro in Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0-0; Anal soft rays: 222-290; Vertebrae: 96-99. Distance between tip of pectoral fin and origin of anal fin less than one pectoral fin length; dark oblique bands on body 18-30 (usually below 30); dark and pale oblique bands with straight borders; greatest body depth 7-11% in total length; eye diameter 33-43% of interocular distance; head length 68-78% of preanal fin distance; maximum scale rows above lateral line 12-13; precaudal vertebrae 31-32; caudal vertebrae 65-67.
