Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Upper Zambezi River (Ref. 52128, 128501).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-21; Anal soft rays: 21-25. Body long and slender, laterally compressed (Ref. 52128). Head broadly rounded with a terminally positioned mouth (Ref. 52128). Dorsal fin origin set far back and behind that of anal fin (Ref. 52128). Caudal fin with broadly rounded lobes (Ref. 52128). Scales cycloid with reticulate striae except in centre, extending anteriorly to operculum, pectoral fins and pelvic fins(Ref. 52128). Dark brown or black colour with a distinctive vertical black band from dorsal origin (Ref. 52128).
