Family:  Ophichthidae (Snake eels), subfamily: Ophichthinae
Max. size:  45 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 35 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Bermuda, southern Florida (USA), and Bahamas to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands; also northern South America (Ref. 5217). Eastern Atlantic: St. Helena Island (Ref. 4455) and Ascension (Ref. 86997).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Burrows in sand in surf areas.
