Family:  Chiasmodontidae (Snaketooth fishes)
Max. size:  22.8 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 1500 - 1900 m
Distribution:  South Atlantic: known only from four stations in the tropical-subtropical waters, about 2.5°S-27°S, 26°W-03°E.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 19-21; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 20-22
Biology:  The 5 known adults were from hauls to depths exceeding 1,500 m. A single Gargaropteron-stage specimens, 4.56 cm SL, taken in a haul 0 to 304 m (Ref. 6944). Maximum depth from Ref. 58018.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 14 July 2014 Ref. (130435)
