Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: India (Ref. 4832) and Bangladesh (Ref. 1479).
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 30-31. The 7th pectoral ray becomes hard and ossified during the breeding season and a few months before (May to July); a characteristic rectangular flattened pad appears just behind the dorsal fin. Males with one or more branched fin ray in both the ventral and caudal fins (Ref. 38333).
