Max. size:  20 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia. Reported from Guinea-Bissau (ref. 13331).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 22-27; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 37-43. The head, some parts of the body and the end of the dorsal and anal fins are darker in coloration. The whole body is generally brown. Dorsal fin origin behind anal fin origin, dorsal base/anal base rates = 0.5-0.6. LS/body depth ratio = 3.5-4.5. Long caudal peduncle, length/depth ratio = 2.9-5.5.
Biology:  Affinities: close to M. mento and M. furcidens.
