Family:  Melamphaidae (Bigscale fishes or ridgeheads)
Max. size:  10.6 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 1500 m
Distribution:  Atlantic and Pacific: in tropical waters.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-18; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 8-9. Head with sharp angle in frontal margin (Ref. 37108).
Biology:  Uncommon species (Ref. 4241). Trawled at depths greater than 500 m (Ref. 4241).
