Strickland rainbowfish

Family:  Melanotaeniidae (Rainbowfishes, blue eyes)
Max. size:  10 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Oceania: known only from 5 specimens collected from the Logatyu River, a mountain tributary of the Strickland River near Wankipe, Papua New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 5-6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-19; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 21-24
Biology:  Not well known, however, was collected in a mountain tributary at 1200 m elevation about 850 km upstream from the sea.
