Distribution:  Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 6-6; Anal soft rays: 4-4. Characteristics based solely on males: have a lateral series of spines on each side of the dorsal margin of the upper denticular; upper and lower denticular each with 8 teeth; pectoral fin rays 17 (Ref. 86949).
