Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Naturally occurring in central and eastern China, widely introduced elsewhere.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  A small transparent fish feeding exclusively on zooplankton. Commercially important in many lakes and reservoirs. Fish spawn in spring and die thereafter.
