Family:  Centriscidae (Snipefishes and shrimpfishes), subfamily: Macroramphosinae
Max. size:  27 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 80 - 600 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: Australia and New Zealand. Western Indian Ocean: one specimen from off Natal, South Africa (Ref. 5382). Southeast Atlantic: Tristan da Cunha and Gough Island (Ref. 11228).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-19
Biology:  Occurs on the continental shelf and slope (Ref. 9563).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 23 November 2015 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
