Max. size:  29.25 cm TL (male/unsexed); 29.25 cm TL (female)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 150 m
Distribution:  Mediterranean Sea: western and northern regions. Also known from the Black Sea.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Uncommon species found in the shallows and to 150 m depth (Ref. 34024). Oviparous, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205).

Threat to humans:  harmless
