Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Can be distinguished by the following combination of characters: 17-29 bars on body, bars in front of dorsal-fin origin conspicuously thinner than those behind, some of which split vertically into two (or more) in their course from back to sides, may join with adjacent bars; males with a prominent suborbital flap; middle of caudal fin with 2-3 v-shaped rows of spots; apexes pointing towards caudal base; basal caudal black bar extending from dorsal to ventral extremities of caudal base; caudal fin with 15 branched rays (Ref. 55394).
