Max. size:  27.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 33 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: East Africa to the Society Islands, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to the southern Great Barrier Reef.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 0-0. Description: Characterized by pale grey to brownish color, grading to white ventrally; head length about 7-8 in TL; body depth 27-40 in TL; eye 8-12 in head length; dorsal fin closer to gill opening that to anus; dorsal and anal fins confluent with caudal fin; no pectoral fins; moderately pointed snout projecting slightly beyond lower jaw; rear margin of eye only slightly anterior to corner of mouth; small gill opening below midlateral position; teeth small and conical in narrow bands in jaws; biserial vomerine teeth, becoming uniserial posteriorly (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Common in tide pools and mangrove swamps (Ref. 637). Also seen in sand bottoms near reefs (Ref 90102).
