Family:  Synanceiidae (Stonefishes), subfamily: Synanceiinae
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 2 - 25 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: India to Indonesia, north to Hong Kong and southern China.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 12-15. Description: Characterized by greyish to nearly black color; body, pectoral fins and caudal fins with diffuse white spots and blotches; yellowish to white distal margins of soft dorsal, anal and caudal fins; unbranched soft fin rays; elongate body, depth 3.6-4.1 in SL; depressed head with dorsal eyes; dorsal mouth opening, vertical gape; skin at gill openings broadly connected to isthmus; poorly developed head spines; jaws and vomer with teeth; absence of palatine teeth (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Inhabits mud bottoms in estuaries. Also found in sand bottoms of estuaries and coastal waters in 2-25 m (Ref 90102).
