Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Alamitos Bay in southern California, USA to Chile.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 153-174; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 0-0; Vertebrae: 69-72
Biology:  Oceanic. Found at or near surface at night, deeper during the day. Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 36610).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 13 August 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
