Environment:  benthopelagic; marine
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean to Western Pacific: northern Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 5-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 43-46; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 39-41; Vertebrae: 55-55. This species is distinct with the following set of characters: D V-VII,43-46; A I,39-41; lateral line scales 57-60; gill rakers 4-6+17-21; vertebrae 55; head length (HL) 18-20% SL; snout length 25-31% HL; infraorbital and supraorbital canals separated anterior to eye; elongated dorsal fin spines in males 4-6; caudal fin in males with 2 black stripes (Ref. 84215).
