Family:  Phycidae (Phycid hakes)
Max. size:  45 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 81 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: southeast coast of the USA, from Cape Hatteras to the northeast coast of Florida.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 0-0. First dorsal fin without an elongated filament; pelvic fin rarely extending beyond origin of anal fin. Generally dark, with mottling on the sides.
Biology:  Found near shore, apparently prefers hard bottoms. Minimum depth reported taken from Ref. 57178.

Threat to humans:  harmless
