Family:  Muraenidae (Moray eels), subfamily: Muraeninae
Max. size:  34 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 20 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Bermuda, southern Florida (USA), Bahamas, and western Gulf of Mexico to Brazil. Eastern Atlantic: a single uncertain record from Fernando Poo in Equatorial Guinea (Ref. 4450).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Prefers rocky bottoms (Ref. 26340). Also found in and around coral reefs.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 16 August 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Collecter one specimen at 12 m among rocks on sand (Ref. 86997). Specimen from English Bay is deposited as ZSM 43054 (Ref. 98447). Also Ref. 4450.
