Definition of Term

dip net
(English) A net used for transferring the catch of a deep-sea seine after it has been brought alongside. It is operated either entirely by hand or partly by hand and partly by power. Other names are scoop, brailer, spoon net, brail net, and hand brailer.

(French) Filet en forme de poche, monté sur une armature circulaire fixée à l'extrémité d'un manche. Épuisette de grande taille, manoeuvrée manuellement ou mécaniquement, utilisée pour le transfert du contenu du filet une fois celui-ci remonté à bord du bateau. Les autres noms sont haveneau, "scoop", "brailer", "spoon net", "brail net", et "hand brailer".
